We are excited to announce that our project has been transferred from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT) to the Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU), thereby becoming an indirectly managed Horizon Europe (HEU) topic.
About Chips Joint Undertaking
Chips JU is a collaborative initiative involving three key partners: the European Commission, more than 30 participating European countries, and three prominent industry associations within the electronic components and systems sector. Building on the legacy of its predecessor, the Key Digital Technologies Joint Undertaking (KDT JU), Chips JU is central to advancing the goals of the European Chips Act. This includes enhancing Europe’s global competitiveness in semiconductor technologies and strengthening its autonomy in critical tech sectors.
The initiative achieves these goals by fostering cooperative transnational research and development (R&D) projects and investing in technological infrastructure. Key areas of investment include the development of pilot plants, chip competence centers, and a European design platform, all aimed at bolstering Europe’s technological capabilities.

Strategic Advantages
One of the key benefits of being part of Chips JU is the integration of both low Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and high TRL projects under a unified framework. This structure enables a seamless progression where technologies developed in lower TRL projects can be further advanced and scaled in higher TRL projects. By maintaining this continuous pipeline within the same organizational structure, Chips JU promotes synergies that enhance the efficiency and impact of research efforts.
This holistic approach not only fosters innovation across various stages of technology development but also ensures that promising technologies are nurtured and brought to maturity within a supportive ecosystem.
Looking Forward
Our project’s inclusion in Chips JU marks a significant step forward, offering enhanced opportunities for growth, collaboration, and innovation. We look forward to contributing to the ambitious goals of the European Chips Act and leveraging the support and resources provided by Chips JU to achieve new technological breakthroughs.
